iPhone Autocorrect is seriously broken and it's pissing me off.

I don’t know if it’s because of the new iPhone update or what but it’s obnoxiously bad now. The predictive text is always wrong and it types out whole sentences when I’m not looking and I look up and it’s nowhere near what I was going to say. It corrects words that are spelt correctly into words that are grammatically incorrect or actively misspelt and it’s absolutely bonkers nuts. I feel like it was actually good like ten years ago maybe? And I don’t know if it’s enshittification, AI being used that’s hot garbage, or a bunch of programmers trying to justify their jobs by adding totally unnecessary updates untill it all crumbles into a gigantic pile of shit, but I’m losing my shit about it man. I switched to gboard but that’s also annoying me, but that could just be a learning curve with the slight differences. It hasn’t actively misspelt anything for me yet or tried to insert an entire sentence I didn’t want in there so that’s good.

I swear to fucking god I’m just going to turn it off and you’ll all be subjected to my horrible typos and everyone will think I’m even dumber than they already think I am.

For me, the rant already starts with autocorrect.

I can’t overstate how much I fucking hate autocorrect, automatic text prediction, “showing results for $word” and similar systems. All of them boil down to the same thing: they butcher what I write because the software behaves like an assumptive piece of trash. And if I can’t turn this filth off, from whatever software I’m supposed to use, then I am not using it.

It gets worse. I’m a translator, so I’m often writing shit in three languages. Sometimes two within the same conversation. No matter how you configure your language preferences, autocorrect will “correct” words from one language into another.

You know, what works fine though? The squiggly red line below words not recognised by the dictionary. Or showing me potential words to complete what I’m writing, but not automatically selecting any of them. Both work fine; one shows me things I might have misspelled, another that I might want to type, but neither assumes what I want.

  Yeah see, that’s what irritates me! We know that it knows what words are wrong. We know that it’s worked better before, and they CAN make it work well. So what the fuck did these morons do to make it so ASS? Like YOU KNOW WHICH WORDS ARE SPELT WRONG AND YOU KNOW THE RIGHT WORD FIX IT YOU FUCK

Also for some reason after the latest update some of my alarms have started just FUCKING RINGING ON SILENT. I OWN A SMALL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY SHIT LIKE THAT CAN NOT HAPPEN.

I don’t want anybody to burn down Apple’s head office with anybody inside but, like, I wouldn’t be sad about it right now.

    yeah I figured out that silent mode now silences my allarms. Which is so annoying because I don’t want to be woken up at 1am from a stupid text but also I need my allarms to go off properly.
