Things are really falling into place now! I feel like they were unfortunately really running up against the budget on this episode. It seems like they did the best they could with what they had, but I would have liked to see more of the action when Shiori attacks Ayame. Also, I wish they had differentiated the voice from the back of Ayame’s head more than just on the initial reveal. Could have done something interesting with it. Eh, it was still a good episode, so I won’t complain more.
I do find Ayame’s whole backstory to be interesting. She’s so obviously awful to this kid, but they also need her to be at least a touch sympathetic, and I’m not sure how well they tow that line. I’m honestly glad they didn’t stretch that out for this adaptation, because it leaves it up to more of the watcher’s interpretation. And of course, her explanation of the mermaid blood is starting to really make the gears turn faster for the story. I’m excited to keep watching!
