Woah! Wandance freaking lept up the charts! I haven’t had a chance to catch the last episode, but I guess I’ll be looking forward to it now.

Things are really falling into place now! I feel like they were unfortunately really running up against the budget on this episode. It seems like they did the best they could with what they had, but I would have liked to see more of the action when Shiori attacks Ayame. Also, I wish they had differentiated the voice from the back of Ayame’s head more than just on the initial reveal. Could have done something interesting with it. Eh, it was still a good episode, so I won’t complain more.
I do find Ayame’s whole backstory to be interesting. She’s so obviously awful to this kid, but they also need her to be at least a touch sympathetic, and I’m not sure how well they tow that line. I’m honestly glad they didn’t stretch that out for this adaptation, because it leaves it up to more of the watcher’s interpretation. And of course, her explanation of the mermaid blood is starting to really make the gears turn faster for the story. I’m excited to keep watching!
- Comment on [Rec] Anime with great emotional payoff 1 week ago:
You can really feel the overall story being rushed, but I found that Kowloon Generic Romance really pays off for many of the characters. The themes of self identity and how trying to live up to the ideals others have of you can hurt you in the end are top-notch. And the entire setting is exquisite. I really think more people should check this one out.

Man, every episode keeps me interested for some reason. On paper, this show is too slow and uninteresting. And yet, each week I get pulled into the story unfolding. I wonder if the books would be worth reading; if they’re even translated…
- Comment on [Episode] GANGLION - Episode 7 discussion 2 weeks ago:
This show is so good. For the amount of time they have, I feel like the world building is fantastic. The idea that you’re allowed to be evil, but only under the government’s oversight, is such a good bit of world building. The way they all act like tired coworkers is very relatable, too.
- Comment on [Episode] This Monster Wants to Eat Me • Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi - Episode 7 discussion 2 weeks ago:
The buildup of this episode was just so much. I think next episode has the opportunity to be one of the best episodes so far. Not to say this one wasn’t fantastic, of course! I think the foreshadowing and conversations were so good here. The tension keeps getting thicker, it’s killing me to wait another week.
- Comment on [Clip] Cute, small misunderstanding • Wandance 3 weeks ago:
That was such a cute scene! This episode was the best one so far, in a large part because the CGI was better, but also because of this scene.
- Comment on [Episode] Dusk Beyond the End of the World • Towa no Yuugure - Episode 7 discussion 3 weeks ago:
This might have been the best episode so far. The OWEL lady not trying to kidnap Amoru was a nice surprise. I feel like all the characters acted in a way that makes sense not only with their character, but also their current emotional states. If we can have more episodes like this, they might be able to make a true emotional arch for these characters, which would be very impressive.
- Comment on [Episode] This Monster Wants to Eat Me • Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi - Episode 6 discussion 3 weeks ago:
Another slower episode, but we’re slowly learning more about the past and the yokai. I don’t remember this section of the manga as much, but I think we are going to get to see some more creepy creatures coming up, which I’m really looking forward to. Love all the bickering Shiori and Miko have. With Hinako being a more subdued protagonist, I think having both of them keep the energy up is important for this show.
- Comment on [Episode] Shabake - Episode 5 discussion 4 weeks ago:
The murderer just fell right into his lap? I guess there’s more going on what with the beheading, but still, that was a surprisingly quick ending to that plot line. I guess we’re getting another backstory episode next week. No idea how this show can keep making decisions that I don’t like, but I still look forward to, and enjoy, watching it every week anyway.
- Comment on [Episode] Dusk Beyond the End of the World • Towa no Yuugure - Episode 6 discussion 4 weeks ago:
I still feel like I’m watching a slow-motion car wreck with this one. It feels like it really wants to be profound, but ends up treating its subject matter so childishly. I think the idea of a different type of relationship emerging in a post-apocalyptic show could be interesting, but this show has yet to make it work in a way that actually makes it believable and not just a trope harem.
- Comment on [Episode] This Monster Wants to Eat Me • Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi - Episode 5 discussion 4 weeks ago:
Another good episode. Although I think the flashback scenes taking up what felt like more than half the episode is a bit much, I’m still staying enraptured by this show. Also love that Miko’s true form is still creepy as hell and not some cutesy fox. Now that that big secret is out, I’m looking forward to some more spooky yokai to show up. Looking forward to next week!
- Comment on [Episode] Shabake - Episode 4 discussion 5 weeks ago:
Really don’t feel like we needed a flashback episode to show where those two came from. It was at least fun to see some new yokai.
- Comment on [Episode] This Monster Wants to Eat Me • Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi - Episode 4 discussion 5 weeks ago:
Finally, the reveal! They took their time getting to it this episode. I feel like the pacing has been very slow for the past couple episodes. I mean, it’s certainly better than if they rushed through things, so I won’t complain. That said, I do want to go back into the manga and see how many chapters they’re doing per episode. Still very happy with this adaptation.
- Comment on [Episode] SANDA - Episode 3 discussion 1 month ago:
Lol, they love using the blood on the shirt to turn him into Santa. Also, someone needs to keep an eye on Shiori at all times, because she is making those bombs way too fast. Maybe she’ll turn out to be an elf! Anyway, this show continues to be buck wild and I love it. The animation is a fantastic adaption of Paru Itagaki’s fantastic style. Can’t wait till next week!

I had forgotten about that twist! Ugh, they really are killing it with this show. It is so satisfying to see all the scumbags be annihilated. Can’t wait for Godwin’s turn next week!
- Comment on [Episode] Shabake - Episode 3 discussion 1 month ago:
Well now I’m fully bought in. This show seems to be so well put together. Hopefully the payoff by the end continues the trend, but for now I’m all in. The character interactions are excellent and tense. It feels like everything is slowly building. If they are able to tie in all the threads, this will truly be an amazing mystery show.
- Comment on [Episode] GANGLION - Episode 3 discussion 1 month ago:
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite short form animes. It’s just so human and chill. Although it might not be winning awards for the animation, it’s so much better than expected. Looking forward to this one next week!
- Comment on Talk about a varied filmography [Nyaight of the Living Cat] 1 month ago:
I know that he has a lot of shockingly violent films. Almost snuff-esq from what I’ve heard. Though I’ve never seen any, I know that Ichi the Killer is well known for a disturbing amount of violence.
- Comment on [Episode] Dusk Beyond the End of the World • Towa no Yuugure - Episode 4 discussion 1 month ago:
Now I feel silly for having high hopes for this show. I’m all for them highlighting the different relationships that they have in the future with the whole ehlsea stuff, but it turns out it is really just an excuse to have a harem. I feel like a harem (or should we say ehlsea) ending could work within the culture of the world, but if that’s all there is to this story, it will be truly disappointing. Hopefully they will wrap up this whole incest mafia boss polycule storyline and show more of the admittedly interesting world they made.
- Comment on [Episode] This Monster Wants to Eat Me • Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi - Episode 3 discussion 1 month ago:
Another Thursday, another good episode. I think this week’s episode was a little bit slower than the previous two, but we finally got the concrete backstory for Hinako. We basically already knew everything, at least broadly, but at least Shiori knows now. Very excited to have Miko pulled more into the story. I think the relationship between the three of them is the strongest part of this story, so I’m looking forward to next week. Still wishing this one was adopted more in a way that The Summer Hikaru Died was rather than a standard adaptation, but I’m just so glad we’re getting this adaptation at all.
- Comment on [Episode] Mechanical Marie • Kikaijikake no Marie - Episode 2 discussion 1 month ago:
Been like half a week since I watched this episode and I can’t remember much about it… Probably means that this show will be a drop soon from me. I just remember being disappointed by the way this premise was used. The escalated way too hard in the first episode, and showed that everyone in the show is just an idiot. Now, that can be fun, but it makes the conceit of the show suddenly lose all stakes. The gags aren’t funny enough, there is no chemistry between the leads, which makes the “romance” creepy at best, and the one conceit that pulled me in has no stakes at all since the guy could probably watch her lose an arm, bleed out, and then cry to the butler that she’s out of oil.
- Comment on [Episode] Let’s Play • Let’s Play: Quest Darake no My Life - Episode 3 discussion 1 month ago:
Sigh, I had forgotten how annoying this story was. The guild members are kind of fun at first, so that’s something. But unfortunately, everyone and everything have to point back to how Sam is the most important person ever. I had to laugh when they literally pulled an “and then everybody clapped” moment when they were talking. I think I’m going to drop this one now. Guess I’ll leave it at Sam airing her grievances and just assume that no more drama occurs, and it all works out.
- Comment on [Episode] A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace • Egao no Taenai Shokuba desu. - Episode 2 discussion 1 month ago:
Another good episode. This episode has assuaged my worries about the main character being one note. I like that we are getting to see more of other characters as well. Also, very cool to get into the headspace of an assistant. I think it’s easy to think of assistants as playing second fiddle to the mangaka, but this shows how important they can be! Though I don’t think giving massages is always required for assistants!
- Comment on [Episode] Touring After the Apocalypse • Shuumatsu Touring - Episode 2 discussion 1 month ago:
I enjoyed this episode a bit more than the previous one. So far, everything surrounding the sister is a bit confusing, but in a good mystery sort of way. We all knew that Schwar-chan was not going to be staying with them, but I kind of find myself wishing that his story wasn’t wrapped up in just a single episode. I feel like a more gradual unfolding over a couple episode could have been powerful, especially as a way for Youko to find out more about the pre-apocalypse and maybe even having Airi relating to him on some level. That said, I like the way they handled it for a single episode story; how not every single thing was spelled out for us and the melancholic ending.
- Comment on Crunchyroll is releasing all five hours of Chainsaw Man for free on YouTube so everyone can catch up before the Reze Arc movie 1 month ago:
Wow, they really want this movie to be a success, huh? I mean, I do hope it succeeds, but dang.
- Comment on [Episode] GANGLION - Episode 2 discussion 1 month ago:
This one is surprisingly good. I think the animation is shockingly solid. The scene with the stall owner putting together the food was really nice. I like how everyone accepts that the henchmen are just part of the world. It really makes me want a full length series of this kind of thing. Kind of reminds me a bit of Acro Trip from last year, but focusing on the more adult side of things. I’m sad that this show isn’t going to get credit for what it does do well.
- Comment on [Episode] May I Ask for One Final Thing? • Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai Shite mo Yoroshii Deshou ka - Episode 3 discussion 1 month ago:
This show is really just building up baddies to make it satisfying to watch Scarlett beat the shit out of them. But dang if it isn’t good at doing that. I think this adaptation does a pretty good job with the source material, from what I remember of it, so I’ll definitely keep watching Scarlett beat down the bastards.
- Comment on [Episode] SANDA - Episode 2 discussion 1 month ago:
Ok, that one kid is crazy. What was up with him requesting that the kiss? But now that we’re seeing what kind of world this is, I’m not surprised that the kids are all a bit crazy. The information we’re getting into the current state of the world are actually fascinating and make sense with the themes that this anime seems to be trying to explore.
Also, I was already excited to see the magical Santa, but now you tell me that there is an anti-Santa squad called the St. Nick Pursuit Unit? I’m all in.
- Comment on [Episode] Shabake - Episode 2 discussion 1 month ago:
Huh. Another episode where not too much happened. That said, I don’t know why, but the chill vibe is starting to work for me. I still might drop it, and I don’t think I would recommend it, but it’s a nice show to watch when I need something chill for now.
