Well that’s exciting! Just saw this last Halloween, and it would be awesome to see on the big screen!

Interesting that they are removing it due to not seeing returns. Maybe it’s just poorly phrased, but I figured the goal wasn’t to make money, but to promote soft power. As far as that goes, it seems to be pretty successful, just look at all the high grossing anime movies. I wonder if other countries will try to take their place. I know some animation coming out of China has been crazy high quality, and Korea has been amassing for years with stuff like K-pop. Just seems like a strange time to start pulling back from having a larger presence on the global media stage.

Ah, that makes more sense. Lot of good stuff coming out though!

Why is “The Detective is Already Dead” considered a big release…? Was it actually good?

That’s… actually pretty cool. I wouldn’t expect something like this from Shuiesha, but this is actually really awesome. It would make sense to have the early parts of these stories available for free to get people interested enough to pay for the rest.

They also call out in the about section that the translations are “done by professional translators”, so hopefully that means not by AI. If Shuiesha is pro real translators, that seems like a good sign for the quality of translations done in general.

Big thumbs up to AniList. As a newer anime fan, I appreciate the feel a lot more than MAL. The MAL-Sync browser add-on can also sync between the two services, so if you want to keep your MAL up to date or bring it’s data over to AniList, it can help you with that. Also, it will automatically track what you watch, though it’s in a browser, not an app.

I might have to check that out. I’ve been using Aluminium, but it’s only on the Play Store and not open source.

I watch the first couple episodes, and thought it was alright, but it was not the tone I was expecting. Seeing this makes a lot more sense. Might have to pick it up again.

It is fun! I enjoy reading up on what everyone else is thinking of the episodes as they come out. I use AniChart to follow what’s coming up and AniList for tracking what I watch as well as reading threads on new episodes. I also recommend the MAL-Sync extension, which can automatically track what you watch as you watch it.

As a newer anime fan, I figured I’d throw my two cents in here. What started my interest in anime was actually going to an anime convention with some friends a couple of years ago. From there I began watching YouTube reviews like Mothers Basement and Glass Reflections and took their recommendations to find new stuff to watch. I eventually found that I actually prefer watching the seasonals as they come out, so I began doing that as well (and in doing so have really upped my number of watched shows). Beyond YouTube, I also listen to several podcasts (Anime out of Context and Quest for the Best, for example). I’ve hopped into several Discord servers, though I don’t comment very often, if at all. I think there’s no real wrong way to be “in the anime community”. Just find the stuff you like to participate in and do that, though don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. You just might find another part of the community that you really like.

I thinks it’s pretty good! It’s not the highest production, but the story is really good. The first episode of season two feels like an increase in quality too, so hopefully the next season will be even better! If you want critiques of the government and large corporations, this one has it with a fun magical girl coat of paint.

That one piqued my interest when looking at what I was planning to watch this season. Think the story is worth checking out?

Woah, that’s crazy. This one has been on my list to check out for a while. Hopefully it ended in a satisfying way.

Literally coming in to say this. I have the whole Akagi manga set. I don’t even know Japanese, but love it so much. Ten, which Akagi is technically a spin off of, is also excellent.

I also own way too many mahjong sets now. I at least got some friends into the game, so they aren’t sitting unused.
