Expedition 33, the gem, made me think of this. There is no specific order, but my top 10 is as followed.
OG Aerith - the unexpectedness of it. Her kind heart and wonderful personality. And to be taken away like that.
Noctis - He grew on me during my 167 hours with FFXV. Him and his bros were inseperable. That final campfire hurt.
Lee Everett - Everything he did for Clem and then he goes out like that. He was a boss.
Dom - Marcus’s bro. Seeing how pitiful he became in GoW 3. Death was a relief.
Ghost and Roach - WTF Shepard…
Gustave - I fell in love with his relatability. He was just this normal dude doing an inhuman task and he did it well. Made great bonds. Badass arm. And then… gone.
Zack Fair - The opposite of emo Cloud. This dude loved life and he sacrificed his to save his buddy.
Galuf - Went out like a Chad to Exdeath.
The Virmire sacrifice - regardless of whether it was Ashley or Kaiden, the fact that they were gone for good because of your choice hurt like hell.
Crono - Talk about a plot twist.
Shepard. Both times.

The first three, so much.
Also, I’m gesturing wildly and vaguely at the whole Life is Strange series. The one death in the first one I’m thinking of is just part of it. I feel like the whole thing is heart wrenchingly sad.
Oh yeah. Johnny Silverhand. And in case you missed it, most of his memories are false. Morgan Blackhand did most of what Johnny is known for. And a couple of his friends sold him out. He wasn’t really killed per se, his mind was trapped in a digital hell and then he woke up in a crazy chick’s head who wanted him out and that’s basically the game. You play the chick. Johnny starts out as the bad guy but by the end you’re rolling to die for him. Because he’s basically Keanu Reeves.
