Today’s game is some more Final Fantasy 7 Remake. I finally managed to bear Rude’s boss fight (I was really struggling). I ended up switching between cloud and Aerith way more often to keep pressure on him. When he went for one character i’d switch, get some damage in, and then switch again. With how smooth it was i get the feeling that’s how the game is meant to be played. Once i beat it i got to see the gorgeous sight of the garden at night, which i think was well worth it.
I wasn’t expecting to do a little mini game to sneak out. What i want to know is if Aerith boobytrapped the house for some reason? Because all this stuff wasn’t lying here before. Is this like a nightly occurrence for her or did she do this specifically to fuck with cloud?
To help with the Rude fight i mentioned struggling with, i also went and did all the side quests. It helped get some exp and this is where the rapid switching kind of clicked with the scorpion fight in the graveyard. At least, it did until cloud died. I managed to make it just barely though.
I tried the Shiva fight too. It didn’t go well. She completely wiped the floor with me. I maybe took out 1/4 of her health? I’ll go back when i have the rest of my party gathered. Then i think i stand a better chance, especially with Barret and Aerith on range and Cloud and Tifa on Melee.

You absolutely need to be switching characters.
The ATB bars fill very slowly when you aren’t playing as a party member, meaning that if you need to use certain abilites or spells, you should focus on playing as the character’s that can use them.
Same goes for limit breaks. On harder bosses you may need to build up a stagger, and then pull off a triple limit break during the stun. But you won’t have all three limit breaks ready if you didn’t evenly play as all three.
Also pay attention to ability effects. Some cause stagger instead of damage, some are single target vs AOE. The game doesn’t do a super good job of telling you what to use when, but read the descriptions and remember to check for weaknesses with assess.

Just did the Hell House boss fight and learned all this the hard way lol. I wish i had read this sooner for that. Somehow i barely managed to pull it off first try though

That was a fun one! I don’t think fully utilized Aeriths kit until that fight, either.
Intergrade still has some of my favorite fights.
I really wish Rebirth was more difficult right off the bat. When you go into it having played Intergrade, you already know to min-max character usage, and the fights are a little too easy.
The gameplay does improve massively. The addition of party abilities, powerful mini-limit breaks which you can use if two compatible party members both have the relevant bars filled, are an amazing addition to the combat system.
The combo moves are also a huge qol improvement. In intergrade flying enemies are kind of a pain when playing melee characters like Tifa, but in Rebirth you can have Cloud (if he’s in the party) launch you at flying enemies by jumping off his sword at any time.
