I know, its a major bummer. I grew up on Pee-wee play house as a kid. Then the other rolls like Cheech and Chong, Blow, etc the guy had massive depth as an actor.
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is a godamned classic.
I love him in Batman Returns, it just cracks me up when I see him, but man he sold that role. Tons of people never even realized he was in it.
Oh shit man, I loved Pee Wee as a kid. Its a shame all the ridicule he had to endure. He was a genuine entertainer.
Phil Hartman was in the original stage show, The Pee-Wee Herman Show, which was not a kids show. And he was in the kids’ show.

Rest in piece. I first saw him in the Cheech and Chong Next Movie and only realized mamy years later he was already playing the Pee Wee Herman character then.
