I'm currently #Reading "The Islam Quintet" by Tariq Ali and "Ibn Fadlān and the Land of Darkness -Arab Travellers in the Far North"
After Ibn Fadlān's diary, is the travelogue of Abū Hāmid Al-Andalusī Al-Gharnātī and both those latter places feature prominently in Book 1 of the Islam quintet. As does Khwārazm - a city whose most enduringly famous and significant son even this mathphobe knows of😀

Ibn Fadlān wrote in the early 300s AH (~920CE) Abū Hāmid a couple of centuries later. This VERY disturbing passage reminded me that the past really IS a different place
