I’m building up a new home server and the hardest thing for me to find is a case. It needs at least 4 3.5 inch hard drive bays and compatibility with micro-atx motherboards. At the moment the current options I’ve looked at are:
- 3d printing a case, although I really don’t have time for this.
- The lian-lee dan-a3. This case seems really good although it only has 3 3.5 inch bays so I would need to hack in some more by 3d printing extra mounts or something.
Aside from that I havn’t really found anything super good.

Fractal design, node case. One of them is a cube that takes 8x 3.5 and microatx. I used one for years and it was great.

Yes the node 804 is exactly what I’m looking for! It’s a bit outdated in terms of looks but I don’t really mind that much for a home server. Aside from that it seams pretty much perfect.

The node case would be so much better if they made the hard drive slots externally accessible. I see they’ve updated it so all the drives are not attached in a huge stack anymore, which seems nice. I personally found it to be a huge pain to work on, and after using it I switched to hp microservers with hot swap slots for HDDs.
But for what OP asked for, it might be the best option.

+1 for Fractal Design Node cases. I’ve used the 304 (it’s Mini ITX, Mini DTX) for years as a NAS case and I love it!
