Are they completely stupid?
Why would you allow a private company, a foreign one to offer digital identities?

I mean, we let it handle payments, track our locations, carry around a microphone and camera, read our emails and texts, listen to our phone calls and track everything we do online.
What’s one more thing at this point?

We already have a semi privatised identity system with the PASS card scheme for proof of age, its government backed but the actual physical and digital IDs are provided by various public and private groups.

I thought about posting this but thought it might stir up too many violent emotions. You’re a braver man than me… or woman… or non binary person.

So you can add your passport to Android but effectively not use it for anything? Does anywhere in the UK accept this Google system as ID?
The article also mentions a partnership to add Railcards to it, but there is already a Railcard app for that, so I’m not sure what this actually for.

So, it’s basically the same as taking a photo of your passport and keeping that on your phone.

No, it’s better because Google can validate that it’s your information so they can use it to sell better targeted ads for more money. Or more pessimisticly sell that info to other companies/countries/scammers.
You take all the risk they take all the profit.
