Even in a representative democracy, do you really know a person? I mean, 99% of the time, the candidate doesn’t even know you.
Actually, in smaller countries like the UK, yes. It’s not uncommon to know your MP and in devolved areas like Northern Ireland, your MLA. I knew a few and have even met the First Minister a few times.

They’re not strangers, to each other, or to their constituency.
If you don’t know your local government, that’s on you. They’re people from your local community.

Yeah. Get to know your candidate/representative is the basic of democracy, they don’t have to know you personally but they should at least know their constituent.
