Starsector is a great game, I highly recommend checking it out.
I would recommend watching SsethTzeentachs video on it.

I really want to play this but the last time I went to their purchase site I was afraid I was downloading malware and backed out.
I really should give it another go.

Nice! I have this one and played it quite a few years ago now. Sounds like it is a good time to revisit it.
