So we've moved off of our rotting old server, and we're on our new server. Now containerized and operating on much better hardware (though I'll probably switch to another platform soon that isn't so fast), but more importantly I made an executive decision to limit federated history to 6 months. All local posts will stick around forever, but remote comments and posts will disappear after 6 months.
It keeps the database small, keeps access times low, and lotide is a somewhat ephemeral platform for long term conversations, so it makes sense for us to keep things rolling forward.
Worked out well enough that I've got it set up to complete a similar process every month on the 1st.
On another note, I've also started doing some work trying to keep lotide going. I updated a bunch of the back-end libraries and bumped the version number on this instance.
