Because you don’t love yourself as much as you should. But, apparently, you love attractive women enough for them to be motivating. Whenever I know something that motivates me, I use it to the best of my ability, until it comes more naturally (which almost always ends in healing something from the past).

Sounds like you’re externally motivated.
nowayy@lemmy.world 2 months ago
do you even know what that means?
Nemo@slrpnk.net 2 months ago
It means the impetus that drives you to improve yourself or even maintain yourself comes from other people, rather than self-regulation.
In your case, social status, specifically social approval from women you find attractive.
There’s nothing wrong with that. Sounds like you just need to maintain contact with those types of people to stay motivated. Shouldn’t be too hard to arrange.

Men become feral if left alone long enough. They identify with the mountains and the moss. They smoke their pipe tobacco while looking longingly along a river. They maintain weight for the winter. They become one with the universe. Then they become horny and the great cycle continues

I realized recently that the only time I miss a female companion is when I get horny. It occurred to me that if that’s deep down the largest value point I place on romantic relationships, I probably don’t belong in ones that are anything but physical. It was kind of a liberating realization.

I’ve been lucky enough to find some women that are a lot of fun to be around, and understand my interests at a deep level. I’d describe it as kind of like friendship, but with a woman
