A present from my son for my recent birthday: the latest in #AnnLeckie ' s loosely linked series of space operas. Here imperial civil war (the main story of some of the earlier books) triggers chaos in a remote part of the empire, a rogue planet with religious significance but little ability to sustain itself as interstellar trade is disrupted. I don't think there's anyone quite like Leckie for elegantly setting up a complex and unique society, and then throwing it against a wall to see what happens. Not quite an all time favourite of mine like some of her other books, but very, very good. However there is no excuse for calling the main city Ooioiaa; I pity the audiobook narrator. @bookstodon #bookstodon
