Premieres in Japanese theaters on December 5th. The new PV is here. Check out the ANN article for additional information. Synopsis from AniList:
The story follows the daily lives of Japanese soldiers taking part in the Battle of Peleliu during World War II: a high-casualty, months-long campaign. The main character, Tamaru, dreams of returning home to become a mangaka, and sees their island outpost as a wild paradise that can one day be used as a setting for one of his stories. Most of his comrades, however, are prepared for the more realistic scenario - that they will not be leaving Peleliu alive.

Just wanted to add here that this isn’t a newly announced project, just that the format being a film is new. The previous announcement was just that a project was in the works. The visual that accompanied that announcement is below:

For subject matter that is so heavy, the art style might feel off for some, especially with how different it is than most mainstream anime/manga. However, the other work that the author/artist worked on, Oyacocco, is excellent and deals with very heavy, serious topics as well. So, I am really looking forward to this whenever it finally gets an international release.
