My first time reading #LouiseErdrich . Some more familiarity might have helped, as this book is obviously personal: the main setting is the independent bookstore she owns in real life, and while the rest of the staff is fictional she appears herself as the owner. Moreover, the story is shunted this way and that by the events of 2020, Covid and the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis, in a way that saps the plot of forward momentum but also seems appropriate for that crazy, disorienting year. A real window into the indigenous experience of the time even if maybe not the most coherent book. Charmingly, the book ends with a 7 page long list of the main character's favourite books! @bookstodon #bookstodon
