After my experiences self-hosting, I think every house should have a low electricity server people do most of their stuff from. Not having to ask permission to use your own services is a liberating feeling.
I wish my web server were in the corner of my room

I host my website and XMPP server from my room. If there is any information on your website that identifies you (very likely) you should be aware that everybody who knows your IP address now also knows your identity. This applies for example to everyone in an IRC channel you join or every website you visit.

While more or less true, the IRC comment is misleading. The IRC server admin knows but good IRC networks hide the IP from other users.

Then I guess libera.chat is not a good IRC network. I could figure out my IP address by using the webchat anonymously and
/whois mynickname
.
