It’s kinda feeling then that Ukraine is doing this invasion as a last ditch effort to get peace talks before Russia takes over pokrovsk. Not a great sign for Ukraine it seems. I’m hoping others have more positive insights

I doubt its solely for that reason. My understanding with wars of attrition, land grabbing isn’t really important and can actually be detrimental (in cases of higher than usual losses) unless you are removing important resources from the enemy. Land is a form of resource, but major factories, oil refineries would probably have a larger impact against Russia.
