I always thought maxis left money on the table by not combining these two ideas. There’s definitely a venn diagram of people who enjoy SimCity and The Sims, and I think it would have been an amazing blend to build a city and then try living in that city as their Sims. Or for others, to build a city made perfect for their sims.
Metropolis 1998 is a fetching isometric blend of SimCity and The Sims, with customisable house interiors

You could do that in Sim City 4, and Sims 3 had the whole “Open World” system with the option for all the sims to live their lives in real-time without you playing with them.

If they’re able to pull this off then I’ll wonder even more what the fuck went wrong with Paradox.

Completely unoptimised … that’s what. Optimisation should be a required course in game design.

I mean. If you’re honestly comparing a 3d game with isometric pixel art. Then I don’t think there’s an answer you’ll be happy with.

What does it matter if the agents are 2d or 3d when it’s the pathfinding that sucks?
