I've finished: His Master's Voice by Stanislav Lem

This feels like old science fiction. A group of scientists theorizing about a mysterious signal from space.

While somewhat dry,I love it! The scientific method in action. Raising hypothesis, challenging them, breaking them down.

At its heart is Peter Hogarth, a mathematician, representing pure science and ready to take apart the human bias inherent in the interpretations of the signal.

It is a philosophical big dumb object scenario.

It is also very much a product of the cold war.
