How in the world did an awful adaptation of an awful manga get a second season?
I could probably name 100 series from the last year alone that deserved a second season more.

What most people think of as being worthy of conversion into anime and added seasons: Plot, story, engaging, relatable and Interesting characters, action, drama, novelty, and usually some romantic aspect to widen the appeal.
What makes money for manga publishers and anime producers: Cute girls doing cute things, well trodden tropes, romance that imperceptibly progresses, and no risk of it ever ending. Maximum appeal to the broadest range of fans for as long as possible.
I started reading this when it was first available on the Viz app and still read it, but it soon became obvious it’s written by an author who knows the endless chapter game very well. It’s a skill, and profitable.
I prefer my manga series to end after no more than 10 volumes, but this title could easily become like One Piece, Detective Conan or Bleach in its eventual chapter count if it balances the fan reward vs frustration tension properly.
