I’d be concerned too if I’d put all of my space eggs in SpaceX/Musk’s basket.
TBF, that was never the intention. NASA always wanted multiple contractors but so far only SpaceX has delivered anything of note. Even if Boeing manage to actually fly their Starliner next week, they’re still way way behind.
I agree it wasn’t the intention, but NASA could have done a far better job of vetting SpaceX’s proposals—on which they are falling behind. Musk is out there talking about colonizing Mars, meanwhile the US is relying almost solely on SpaceX to win what it considers to be today’s space race for the Moon. It’s not a winning strategy.

As the stability of the USA hegemony crumbles it lashes out at any attempts by other nations to do anything as something to be suspicious of.
