In short:
The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory director Adam Worrall has confirmed the institution is in confidential talks to try to bring masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris to Darwin.
Mr Worrall said the bid hinged on a new State Square art gallery going ahead and whether the museum’s expression of interest was successful.
What’s next?
The Country Liberal Party government is considering other options for the future use of the new building in central Darwin, which was commissioned as a purpose-built art gallery under Labor.
