It is tropes on top of tropes. But for many fans, it’s also comfort.
Like reading a Young Adult book.
Not to say there isn’t a series that sees the tropes and does the complete opposite, like Dan da Dan.
I actually did not like dan da dan at all. I think the only shonen I enjoy are like FMA (the original, not FMA B) and Gurren Lagan. And maybe FLCL (season 1 only) but apparently that one isnt a shonen. I think I woukd enjoy HxH as well but ive only read it and not watched it.
