Most jobs allow people to use their phones during down time, as long as your not disturbing anyone else or looking at porn then no one cares

I would have assumed that by now we would at least have overcome the age of puritanism sufficiently to no longer taboo sexuality. I actually watch porn on public transit, but I guess that not many people do.

No we haven’t. Largely because we haven’t overcome patriarchy and it issues also people don’t trust that people can show strong urges like that and act in a way that is respectful of their boundaries.
In the same way you and I would avoid someone yelling on public transport.
