I just have a different view. A lot of people try Lemmy, find very little content in the communities they’re interested in, and end up going back to Reddit. To me, that’s a much bigger problem than reposting content.
I’d rather see relevant content shared here - even if it originally came from Reddit - than see people leave the Fediverse altogether. As Lemmy grows, communities can produce more original content naturally. But getting to that critical mass is difficult if new users arrive and find empty feeds.
There’s also a difference between indiscriminately dumping everything and selectively sharing content that’s likely to interest the community. I don’t think those are the same thing.

I don’t think you got my point. I do not care, where a post originates. Memes are made to be shared.
This is what I accuse you of. I don’t think you are making a careful choice of what fits here, what you understand and could explain in context. I do think you more or less indiscriminately dump anything off here.
You also only rarely engage in discussions in the comments, what I would argue is more important to build a community than having all the content in the world.
And in the end, even if you carefully select every meme you share fully intentional, I do think you still post too much. When almost every post in a community is posted by the same user, that is not a good sign.
so post more. I agree with you on that lemmy needs more users. thats why im here personally - I dont want to be using reddit, but its evident that reddit users are not jumping over to lemmy - in part due to lack of content.
I reject the idea that every meme needs a personal explanation, a lesson, or a long comment thread attached to it. Memes are also casual content. People should be allowed to see something funny, vote, comment if they want, and move on.
The practical issue is activity. In the latest 24-hour window, this community had 14 posts; I supplied 12 of them.
r/HistoryMemeshad roughly 40 posts in the same window. Without people consistently sharing material here, this community becomes an almost-empty alternative while people stay on Reddit because that is where the feed is active.Calling all frequent sharing “indiscriminate dumping” does not build a community. It reduces the content that gives people a reason to check in. If there is a concrete problem with a post, say what it is. If there is a proposed community-wide posting standard, state it clearly and apply it to everyone. But demanding less content, less sharing, and an explanation for every meme is not a serious growth strategy.
This reads less like a plan to improve the community and more like an attempt to make Lemmy’s feed quieter. I do not think that is a good outcome.

I think that in a community that has a special interest, one should be able to explain one’s postings. Because:
I tried that multiple times. I pointed out mistakes, errors and false information in your memes, but there was literally no reaction. This is the first time I see you reacting to anything.
That is not what I did though. I said it seems like indiscriminate dumping because you never seemed to bother to engage in discussion, do not deliver context (as it was normal before you started posting), etc. You even copied the title here that doesn’t make sense for this platform. That’s why I call it mindless.
What is the context of these numbers though? How many different users made these reddit posts, how many members does the reddit sub has compared to this community, how many comments by how many commentors etc?
When I see a community and almost every post is made by the same user, I am turned away, because that does not speak of a healthy community. It looks like the personal platform of an individual.
When I see a special interest community where almost every post is made by the same user, I do not expect to see meaningful exchange about the topic. Had I come here after you became active, I would not have subscribed.
And if you do not want to be on reddit, don’t be there.

“One should be able to explain one’s postings” - no. I’m not a community organizer and I don’t owe anyone a response on demand. I’m a person sharing memes I find worth sharing, to the degree I have time. I have a family and a life outside here. Not answering a comment is not a failure of duty; it means I didn’t get to it. Every comment does not deserve a reply, and every meme does not deserve a lecture attached.
“It looks like the personal platform of an individual” - to you. Not to everyone. This community has ~2,800 subscribers and ~650 daily active users. People engage with the content the same way no matter who posts it. You don’t speak for the community, and the data doesn’t back “this turns everyone away.”
“What’s the context of the numbers?” - the last 100 posts here came from 15 authors on a ~2,800-subscriber community. r/HistoryMemes has millions of members and produced those 100 posts from 78 authors at ~40–50 posts/day. A community this size does not generate that volume on its own. Someone has to seed the feed, or it’s empty.
Quantify “better.” You’re framing the choice as: one active poster with a live feed, or almost no posts with a dead feed. Today this community gets ~14 posts/day; 12 come from me. Remove my posts and it gets ~2/day. A dead feed is exactly what drives the remaining people back to reddit. Unless you can show that removing my posts increases subscribers or engagement, you are asking for the measurably worse outcome.
And “if you don’t want to be on reddit, don’t be there” doesn’t land - I post here, on the fediverse. That’s the point. What I find telling is that the loudest demand is for less content on a small federated community. I’m not calling you a reddit agent. But if someone wanted to quiet the fediverse and push people back to reddit, demanding an active poster slow down is exactly how they’d do it.
