they seem to ship their own kernel, but I’ll try when it arrives later today

They should be providing patches then. If so, you can patch a vanilla kernel.
Cool, let us know how it goes and maybe also see if the power consumption has improved with more recent kernel versions.

Yikes. If there’s no mainline support you’ll be stuck on whatever version the vendor gives you.
Seems not too bad. It does boot with mainline Linux and the vendor releases patches for recent kernel versions, which is much better than most ARM SoCs.
