I am more used to shows where the protagonist would not keep everything for himself. It feels more typical of Japanese writing?

Elymas could have taken just the shield and share the magic stone’s proceed with everybody, it would give people one less reason to criticize him. But that might not be valuable, haters will find other reasons to hate him.
