Probably just related to famous authors with dark world views drinking Gin. Though, I’d say Absinthe should then be up there as well.

What does hatred for others here mean? Is it how much drinking the beverage defies social norms or is it how much alcohol the beverage contains?

I interpreted that as how likely you are to fight somebody while drinking that.
