Non-MAGA 2A people still talking about “government tyranny” lost the plot entirely. You are in government tyranny. Your Ar-15 is pointless, fix your democracy.

People love trotting out the ‘only muskets existed’ argument against the 2nd Amendment but the Puckle gun alone blows that up, multi-shot weapons were already a known concept before the Constitution was even written. The Founders said ‘arms.’ They meant arms.
The whole point was an armed citizenry as a hard stop against government tyranny. That doesn’t become less true because the calendar changed.
What kills me is that the people most vocal about the dangers of rising authoritarianism are the same ones pushing to disarm themselves. You can’t spend every day posting about fascism and then advocate for being defenseless against it. Pick one.
Frankly I want to see a serious movement to get firearms into the hands of trans people, minorities, and marginalized communities broadly. The 2nd Amendment was literally written for people facing genuine threats to their safety and freedom. Self defense isn’t a right-wing value, it belongs to everyone. You want to make life difficult for bigots and oppressors? An armed population they can’t push around is a damn good start.

The whole point was the US didn’t have a standing army, so would need to rely on State militias. Like it literally says. It was never about being about to topple the same institution that made that law

The existence of an extremely expensive, crew-served, stationary gun that could shoot less than a dozen rounds per minute is hardly evidence that the Founding Fathers would find no issue with cheap fully automatic firearms that can fire hundreds-of-rounds per minute, concealed in a coat pocket.
Even cutting-edge air rifles of the period which could shoot closer to a full magazine of ~20 rounds (with a multi-minute reload time) were expensive and unwieldy.
But even all that aside - as, for as horrible as easy US access to firearms makes mass casualty events, the root cause is mental health and societal dysfunction - individual, civilian-owned firearms are rarely any significant use against a tyrannical government. And, for that matter, the formation of paramilitaries tends to serve small fringe movements - including those aligned with tyrannical governments - more than the ideologies of the great mass of people trying to get by in life.
“To place any dependence upon militia is assuredly resting upon a broken staff.” - George Washington
