Open source doesn't mean free. It means the source code is unencumbered or only slightly encumbered by IP protections.
Being able to make money from open source isn't inherently a bad thing.
Google being an Ad monopoly is a bad thing however.

When you permit redistribution then you don’t make money monopolizing it, but you can still make money via donations or being paid before you create it.
The term “open source” was created so business folk could talk about the advantages of sharing source code without the political values of the earlier term “free software” (software freedom).
