Comment on Long Read: Playing PS1 & PS2 games on a modern TV
47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip 1 year agoThis is what’s worked for me without spending more than the PS2 itself costs to buy and while the idea of direct digital output sounds good it’s not beginner level nor cheap. This is about the best PS2 experience imo for minimal cost and can be done by anyone. If you can hook up a PS2 then there is nothing here that will trouble you.

Same with the OSSC/RT5x. Nice thing about those devices is that they work on far more than just the PS1/PS2.
Granted, you’d have to get SCART cables for most of them or find good component ones but once you’ve done that its jyst a matter of hooking it up.
The digital mods do take a bit of work, but you can often find installers who’ll do it for a small price.

That must depend where you live. I live about an hours drive from London and the cheapest I could find to get it done was £150.

I’ve got some people locally who’ll do it for $70-90, at least for the PS1Digital I got installed. To me, it is worth it as I don’t have to worry about killing another console. (Tried to do the PSIO ODE mod a few times and it kept on frying consoles.)
