What would Lemmy need? Impossible question!
Let's try to ask ourselves two different questions:
1) What are the features that Lemmy is missing?
2) which users would need these features?
Possible answers:
1a) make mentions made by Lemmy users work well because now they don't work. Is useful? Yes, but it certainly doesn't interest Misskey users like you! 😁
1b) allow Lemmy users to "follow" other Lemmy users and other users of the Fediverse. Is useful? Well... If Lemmy were a social network, maybe it would be useful; but it is a link aggregator. At the moment, there is no Lemmy user interested in following other users because lemmy users are mainly interested in following the conversations of the communities, which they can do in an easy and practical way.
The only concrete problem that today derives from this limitation is that a Lemmy user can "subscribe" to a Friendica group, but cannot write in that group!
In fact, the Friendica groups only relaunch the messages of users who follow them and who mention them, while a lemmi user cannot follow another Fediverse user (the so-called subscription perhaps works in a different way) and above all there are problems with the mentions that still they don't work well.

that's not a problem either, though. What interests other users of the Fediverse... 😁
1c) there is no possibility of practicing immediate crossposting. To do crossposting you basically need to copy the post published in one community and repost it on another community. it's a feature that helps avoid spam and helps you think a little more before posting something.
But now we come to the second question: who would need these improvements?
Well, it is clear that 1a and 1b are improvements for the experience of Lemmy users only.
1c, on the other hand, mainly concerns the user experience of users writing on platforms other than Lemmy.
At this point, it seems quite logical to me that all these changes are not a priority at all, considering that:
- change 1a is not that important, while 1b is a bit more important and it's also quite easy to implement,
- the 1c still comes after the first two, also because Lemmy has already evolved a great deal in the last year, becoming a tool for creating transversal communities across the various instances and platforms of the Fediverse. Today, paradoxically, a Friendica user is able to exploit Lemmy even better than a Lemmy user can exploit it.
I hope I explained myself well and was clear enough. I'm not a computer scientist and therefore I'm not able to answer questions of a technical nature, but I hope I have managed to best illustrate and contextualize the functional and evolutionary scenario.

@notizie@poliverso.org @informapirata@mastodon.uno @atomicpoet@calckey.social Thanks for the detailed post! But unless I am misunderstanding you, I think you've gone beyond the scope of merely replicating the a.gup.pe or friendica group facility for platforms other than lemmy/friendica.

Yes, I probably went a little further, but it was to better contextualize the very nature of a platform like Lemmy.
To be more succinct, I can simply say that Lemmy (unlike a Friendica group/forum or a GUP group) doesn't support immediate crossposting (basically you can't mention several Lemmy communities to have your post published on each of them) . This limitation must not be removed because it is the basis of the anti-spam check by default which must be present on a link aggregator.
This is the biggest systemic difference between Lemmy communities and Friendica groups.
And crossposting has become the most important function that the fediverse has recognized to GUP groups. Even with excesses that often go beyond the limits of "fediquette"...

@notizie@poliverso.org @informapirata@mastodon.uno @atomicpoet@calckey.social right. Thanks!!
I didn’t know this. So if I “at” two lemmy communities in one post, it won’t work. Huh.
Though I’ve gotta say, I’m not sure it’s the most vital feature. A quote post or link would probably be sufficient for me.

if you mention two Lemmy communities from a Fediverse social account, only one of them will re-share your thread. On the other hand, if you mention only one Lemmy community after the first paragraph (which will become the title/subject of the Lemmy thread) and in the body of the message you mention as many Friendica forum groups as you want, the result will be (almost always 😅) the posting on the Lemmy community and re-sharing on all the Friendica groups/forums you mentioned
