Any chance others can get their hands on the data set? - Comment on no title posted 1 year ago:

Yea ... just squinting at the graphs, I think these errors in the graphs mask the growth of mastodon.social. I would bet that when corrected, mastodon.social will have grown in it's share from March to May. - Comment on no title posted 1 year ago:

Also, it'd be nice to know something about what comprises all the "others", how many accounts do those instances have, how many of them are there?
Otherwise, it'll be interesting to track this going forward because mastodon.social right now is growing faster than it did between March and 17 May ... the picture could very well look different when comparing May to August. - Comment on no title posted 1 year ago:
@notizie@poliverso.org @informapirata@mastodon.uno @atomicpoet@calckey.social right. Thanks!!
I didn’t know this. So if I “at” two lemmy communities in one post, it won’t work. Huh.
Though I’ve gotta say, I’m not sure it’s the most vital feature. A quote post or link would probably be sufficient for me. - Comment on no title posted 1 year ago:
@notizie@poliverso.org @informapirata@mastodon.uno @atomicpoet@calckey.social Thanks for the detailed post! But unless I am misunderstanding you, I think you've gone beyond the scope of merely replicating the a.gup.pe or friendica group facility for platforms other than lemmy/friendica.

Hmmm ... I'm unclear on your point about crossposting.
In my experience of interacting with lemmy on other platforms (mastodon chiefly), following and "at"-ing communities works just fine and just like GUP and friendica groups.
Also, from my experience, the structure of replies is federated well and pleasantly viewable through the lemmy interface should one want to, even when they're all coming from alternative platforms.
For the sake of providing a federated group-like facility to platforms without or uninterested in implementing it natively, what else would lemmy need? - Comment on no title posted 1 year ago:

Cool! And thanks!
I pitched the idea to lemmy devs of trying to replace with a.gup.pe with a modified lemmy instance. The lead dev (I've forgotten their name) seemed mildly interested but concluded, I think, on it being too hard / not worth it.
Do you have any thoughts?
I would guess that lemmy would be a better bet for replacing aguppe over friendica for two reasons:
1. it's overall less complex or has fewer features than friendica (could be wrong here)
2. It has a complete separation between the backend and frontend - Comment on no title posted 1 year ago:
@informapirata@mastodon.uno @atomicpoet@calckey.social @fediversenews@venera.social #lemmy communities also provide moderation facilities like this.

@supernovae@universeodon.com @jdp23@indieweb.social @maegul@hachyderm.io Sad to hear about the lack of any response from the admin. Thing is, that's what a burn out looks like.
Shame, because handing off the instance is the most obvious thing to do. That there seems not to be even engagement on that front indicates just how little of an admin community there is, in their mind at least.
On top of creating and fostering an admin community, maybe there should really be some public conversations about what it means to be a good admin, which, IMO, would involve first and foremost not being a solo operator, but having a team and organisation of some sort with some degree of connectivity or sourcing from the instance's user base. For those new to the whole thing, it'd be nice if there were resources or admin specific community channels you could get onto for guidance etc.
I hope there's just this sort of maturation phase the whole thing needs to go through, because the story is getting out there of instance refugees forced to migrate because of closures etc.

@bgrier@universeodon.com @maegul@hachyderm.io @fediversenews@venera.social Yea, generally, the lack of single-user empowerment is just a little weird and I'm all for criticising the fediverse on this front. Hopefully these burn outs and closures don't harm the fediverse too much, but if they do, or cause more centralisation due to users just heading to mastodon.social out of fatigue, then it's a deserving hit IMO.

Maybe an annoying question ...
but what exactly are these people doing (I've probably missed it in my timeline) ... just kinda curious ... and wondering if there's some etiquette I'm not aware of? - Submitted 1 year ago to fediversenews@venera.social | 2 comments
