KISSmyOS@lemmy.world 7 months agoDon’t forget to remove Chrome with a third party tool or a registry hack, disable the search field (again), also you should probably check if all telemetry settings were switched back on with the last update, by the way why haven’t you subscribed to M365 yet, that’s why we forced you to create an account after all? and please fill out this survey before we let you log in without giving us your phone number.

Or I could just ignore the things I don’t use. You guys blow this way out of proportion. Don’t get me wrong, I love the simplicity and barebonesness of Linux OSs, I have a desktop install and run a home server using it too. But does the presence of edge or news affect me? No.

Edge affects me cause with every typo in the desktop search, Edge opens and then springs like 5 popups and notifications on me that don’t have close buttons.
And the news widget pops up whenever I happen to touch it with the cursor.
Things like this aren’t a problem by themselves but if you use the OS a lot, they all add up to a really annoying UX.
And I’m reminded every day that Microsoft controls what happens on my PC, not me.

I worry about the telemetry and customizing my OS to exactly the way I want.
Things like swapping Ctrl and Alt without needing to spring extreme protocols or run software that is a security risk. It’s just a couple of toggles on Linux.
But it’s a “to each their own” kinda stuff 😅 After work I can’t look at Windows anymore.
