It is a selfish and short view of the world.
Empathy, cognitive, emotional, compassionate, comes more naturally to some individuals over others.
What you see here is someone who may not understand the situation and its consequences, or has trouble forming a connection with the people impacted by the situation. But the compassion does show, they’re reaching out, asking questions, trying to understand.
I don’t think that’s a sign of a selfish or short-sighted person.

Even though the wording in the OP makes it sound like that, they didn’t mention anything about their own feelings. It might just be an honest question.

The body text of "Let me have it" leads one to believe that OP was aware that the title could be interpreted as them not actually caring at all and expecting to be berated for it. It's difficult for me to perceive that bit any other way

I added that part because i knew it would elicit real responses because of how you interpreted it. Clickbaity i guess, but i really do want to try to see all around this issue.
But then i chickened out and added a comment.
