Comment on Wil looks like he's already mentally planning their life together
captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 year agoDude, as a fellow neurodivergent person, it’s not comparable to blackface. Like not even a little. It’s definitely mocking autistic people sure, but people need to stop comparing shit to blackface

How else would you effectively communicate “the negative characteristics of a group portrayed in a heightened and exaggerated manner for people outside the group to mock and laugh at”? These are not loving and respectful homages, they are “guess what, normies, it’s OK to laugh at these retards!”

Parodies, mockeries, buffooning, cruel depiction for humorous effect. Really anything other than comparing it to a form of racialized mockery that depicted a group of people as less than or barely human within a lifetime of the ending of their centuries of enslavement. I understand that it can feel like they’re similar but people are way too comfortable comparing mockery to blackface.

You’re probably going to get pretty mad when you realize that drag shows are just female blackface, too.

Uhm, drag shows are absolutely not comparable in any way to blackface. The fact that you make that comparison reveals that you have little to zero understanding of drag or its history.

Oh you’re one of those lunatics.
Like yeah I have my issues with the misogyny present in many drag queen’s acts. Many others mock gendered expectations as a whole and can be quite funny without offense. But what would I know, I’ve only been discussing the feminist theory around drag in lesbian and lgbt spaces for most of a decade and have had my mindset influenced by bio queens and some particularly amusing drag kings as well as some drag queens who clearly have respect and awe for the women they parody.
So yeah, also not even close to blackface.
