givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 year agoWe’d need to wait for someone like the BBC to get in there.
And Israel was already killing a lot of journalist before this on Israeli land, so I don’t expect a big rush.
If they try to report from the Palestinian side, they’re at constant risk of being bombed. And who knows if Hamas would try to use them as human shields indefinitely.
It’ll be a while before we know details.
And acting like what videos do come out are reflective of the entire situation is crazy. One of the biggest parts of propaganda is taking isolated incidents and presenting it as widespread

It feels like you didn’t understand that and are being sarcastic…
But since that said Palestinians didn’t shoot the journalist and the only other people firing were IDF…
Yes, they came to the correct conclusion that the IDF killed that journalist.

Yes, Israel is actually known for this.
You can read some stories here: …ox.ac.uk/…/not-just-shireen-how-israel-has-attac…

Or taking clips of unrelated incidents (older / from other parts of the world / from fictional media) and suggesting that’s what’s happening right now.
Some of the atrocities right now ARE real, and spreading fake stories/clips does not help any side. There’s also the risk that sharing a very recent clip will put someone in that clip in harms way.
So agreed, as curious as we are to know more. Hopefully everyone caught up in this find safety

It’s just frustrating that in 2023 people still don’t get this.
Like, we’ve all went through at least a solid decade of it happening online. By now everyone should be better than this at picking out propaganda.
And I think a big part is most countries/organizations have paid teams whose job is to go online and intentionally not understand it.
They’re “time sinks” to make people too tired to keep explaining this 1,000 times a day

Al Jazeera has people reporting from the palestinian side, so it is possible… Actual details, obviously neither side is going to leak… we’ll be fed propoganda from both sides until it’s over and probably after too.

Curious, has Hamas ever kidnapped journalists?

Hard to find relevant results off a search, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
And even if they never have, shits about to get a lot crazier than it ever has.
Any foreign journalist going to this conflict has bigger balls than I ever will

A world dangerous to journalists is a world dangerous to everyone.

a wise view.

Thanks for mentioning this. I think a lot of people think propaganda means to lie But it’s more about shaping the narrative. Choosing what information propagates.
