In the past centre left has been my first preference.

You’re still wasting your preferences by voting Labor first. Labor or liberal are essentially guaranteed to be in the last 2 preferences for almost every seat in the country. You can put them 2nd to last and they’ll still count your vote towards them in preference flows.
