Relying on Chinese products for baby formula after the 2008 scandal requires some mental gymnastics.
But that wouldn’t be an issue if the ingredients were tested. How can so many producers not catch the contamination?
Which rises the question, how can so many producers shift sourcing to the same company? Even worse, how can the EU not identify this as a threat? No baby milk when we are at war with China? The supply chain act should prevent this problem in the future.
But finally:
half of the consignments entering the bloc from the Asian powerhouse should be physically checked.
Why check only half? It only saves half the work but keeps the risk. Companies can slip the contaminated product into production and claim that it came from the unchecked half.
