  A long time ago I took some online classes, and the teacher could see if the software used for the classes was not in focus. I used a VM to run it, and as long as it was in focus on the VM the VM didn’t have to be in focus itself

  There are multiple extensions that can keep a tab focused even if you are not looking at it.
