So sad. I love our countryside, but its been so long since I’ve seen a (live) wild animal that’s not a pigeon, crow or fox near me.
Maybe that’s just because I don’t knock about in the wild as much as I used to, but I can’t remember even seeing a bee this summer, just one bastard wasp.

Makes you wonder how much of our countryside is truly wild anymore. Our management of the landscape goes back to the Neolithic when there were major tree clearances. There was a move a while back to preserve the Lake District in its current state but that’s actually an incredibly artificial one.
We really need to start to reforest the uplands as that will have a big impact on all sorts of areas, especially flooding.
