I think i read somewhere that Brando didn’t really care about the script and would mostly improv his lines so those cue cards were probably just guidelines for him and he would do his own thing.

That’s the kind of actor he became in his later years as he was aging and decaying and he was already well established in Hollywood so he didn’t have too much to prove anymore.
