Comment on Stay under the speed limit, guys. It's not worth it.
ebolapie@lemmy.world 1 week agoIt’s a speed limit, as in “go no faster than this.” Speed minimums are a different law. On surface streets speeding doesn’t even save you any time because of traffic lights. You might get a cycle or two ahead, but you still end up waiting at a light with everyone else.

There’s also speed minimums in most country’s.
And my comment was specially about the highway if you cared to read untainted of bloviating about an unrelated situation ;)

Speed minimums and limits are different numbers. Going under the speed limit is not necessarily illegal.

And speeding isn’t necessarily illegal either. Most cops won’t do anything until to go 15km over the limit.
So as I said, JUST as illegal, since it’s judgement calls in either situation.

There is a range of speeds that are legal to drive at on any given road. This range lies between the speed minimum and the speed limit. Speeds outside this range are broadly speaking a violation of traffic laws. A law that is not enforced does not stop being a law.
