Are they the same meds?
Not all ADHD meds are the same. And not all patients are the same.
I was on methylphenidate (a relatively low dose), and that was very positive for me. But my personality is different than others, and that drug is going to be very different than whatever’s being perscribed now.

For what it’s worth, the effect isn’t miraculous for me. I don’t mean to sound preachy, but looking back on my mistakes, I should have paired low dose methylphenidate with more “self awareness” and specifically structuring my life for ADD.
And my subjective, low sample size experience was that methylphenidate worked best for the “less hyperactive” type of ADD, while newer drugs seemed to work better for friends with more hyperactivity.

Idk about for kids, but I have a prescription for methylphenidate currently, so it’s still available, even if it’s not super common.
