The second half of your comment was only in the „End of Evangelion“ movie, which was made as an alternative ending because the series ending was too confusing (it only showed what was happening to Shinji mentally without showing wtf was actually going on outside his head)
Whining 14 year old boy, cross shaped explosions, more whining, more explosions, full 2 episode existential crisis, whiny boy jerking off over a comatose girl then getting molested by a 30 year old then everyone turns to orange drink. That’s the whole series.
