  This may actually be the root of fascism. All that self-hatred gets externalized and has to go somewhere. Then wham, you have neo-nazis. And who do they attack? The projected vessel of the thing that causes their self-hatred, as some mental gymnastic form of repentance. “I can’t be gay if I denounce and beat the gays! Surely I won’t go to hell!”

  The cult of fear is what breeds fascism.
