Thanks! The link didn’t fully load for me, just the heading with the character’s name and the footer with no styling. But with that, I found that this is Neon Genesis Evangelion. Going to binge.

Yeah😆, the series is famous, advertized in Japan monthly, so it’s hard to miss not knowing about it. It’s as famous Star Trek.

That’s really cool! I’ve definitely heard of it before, just haven’t ever seen it. Looking forward to it!

Also maybe just jump into the remake movies first. They are a lot tighter and have a high budget, hitting some of the high points of the series.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s some fascinating history with the eva show and it’s own movie, and it was all so influential that it bled into tons of anime. Its just… probably not as enjoyable to watch the series now. Youve already seen some of its concepts through cultural osmosis. If that’s your jam then go for it after the remake movies

No no no. No one should ever watch the remakes. The OG show and End of Eva movie, while not perfect, are an extraordinary and focused (again, with a few exceptions and missteps along the way) artistic expression from a soul in pain trying to understand and work through their traumas, the kind of exercise that some of the best art comes from.
The remakes are nonsensical meta garbage about Anno (the artist in question) trying to leave behind this behemoth IP empire that accidentally created and desperately wants to be free of, to the point that he couldn’t even finish the damn things himself.
While I appreciate the sentiment, I truly regret the time I spent watching the remakes.

Just go in knowing that it’s a product of its time. The studio is both great at doing dissection of current-time tropes AND likes to sniff their own farts. Watch the original all the way through, then go find the ‘alternate’ endings that they made.
