That’s not gatekeeping a hobby, that’s fighting Nazis. Now if you say only x can fight Nazis, that’s gatekeeping.
The thing is, nazis and other right wing weirdos are the ones who want gatekeeping. While nazis wanted it for obvious reasons, those that are less far-right often thought that by creating “conservative-friendly” circles, they can avoid censorship from conservatives.
