I think the problem with the ends justify the means is it comes off as absolute. Maybe sometimes the ends justify the means sometimes or even oftentimes it does not. ends and means can vary in morality greatly. the means could be a small lie or a planned murder and the ends could be a stubbed toe or the total annihilation of the universe.
